Okay, we get it! Bow ties get a bad rap because they look "confusing," and yes, in comparison to putting your ethics aside and downloading the latest Coldplay album onto your computer desktop, they do seem like they take forever to tie! OoOTie's CAUSE For Great Style: Push America

 Need a real reason to buy a new bow tie? Look no further! OoOTie has teamed up with an outstanding organization named Push America, allowing bow tie enthusiasts such as yourself to shop and make a difference all in one quick click. For the second week of November only, 30 percent of all OoOTie's proceeds will be donated to Push America in efforts to help raise awareness for people living with disabilities. 

But wait, what is Push America?

Push America is a non-profit organization founded in 1977 through Pi Kappa Phi, where undergraduate fraternity brothers learn the importance of giving back to the community and gain leadership skills by bringing attention to the cause on both a local and national level. Currently, Push America has raised a staggering amount of over $15 million to support people with disabilities and the different services available to them. 

   

 Across the country the various undergraduate chapters have participated in many impressively successful fundraising opportunities and "Push Challenges," including cycling trips such as "Journey of Hope" and "Gear-Up Florida," construction service projects such as "Give-A-Push Weekend" and "AccessABILITY," as well as other community volunteer ventures and alternative spring break projects such as "Build America" and "Push Camps."

Who are your musical inspirations?
Outkast, Bob Marley, and as of recently Lil B. But really anyone who puts their heart into it.

What got you into rapping and/or making music?
I've always loved listening to hip hop. What I really love about hip hop is that it's constantly undergoing some kind of change. There's just always something going on in hip hop.

Does your music have a message? What's the effect you want your music to have on individuals?
I don't care what people think of my music, even if they're just laughing. It's the same way I feel about cooking, I'm more interested in getting a reaction---getting smiles out of people. Music is a feeling. The best thing about it is that everyone can have an opinion about it or feel something toward it.





Who's currently on your iPod right now?
I actually use a disc player instead of an iPod. I don't like iPods because people have begun to adopt this bad habit where they just don't listen to full albums anymore. People just shuffle through their albums to get to the single they want to hear and then move on to the next song. They don't appreciate it in its entirety. To answer your question though, I guess I'd say Sean Price.

If you had an opportunity to work and/or meet any musician dead or alive who would that be?
Lil B or Moby.

Favorite movie/s? Favorite genre? Favorite director?
Kung Fu Hustle. I like thrillers and suspense films. My favorite directors would probably be Alfred Hitchcock and Guy Ritchie.

What got you into film? What do you love about it?
I just love the aesthetics of it. It's the same reason as to why I love cooking and music; I just love creating. And if you sit and watch a film--- I mean, like really watch it---there's something really beautiful going on up on the screen.

Who would be included in your ideal casting call for a movie?
Humphrey Bogart, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, and Buster Keaton---"The Great Stone Face."


What's the best and worst part of the film process?
That's a hard question. A lot of people don't like editing, but I have a lot of fun with it. I would say the worst part is that the scenes just repeat and repeat, and no matter who you are in the film crew you're going to be standing and standing for hours on end. But in the end, it turns out to be worth it. The final product is very rewarding.

 
How important is the music to creating a mood in a film? Given your love for music, who would be included when designing your dream movie soundtrack?
Music is extremely important! But the sound changes the whole scene and/or the entire feeling of the film. In my dream movie soundtrack, it'd really depend on what the film was about. Probably both Moby and Trent Reznor would be included somewhere in there.




  
Do you have a favorite movie soundtrack? Why do you think movie soundtracks are usually underrated?
I really like the movie soundtrack to the movie, The Wackness. I don't know if they are. But then again, I guess people tend to buy that one hit single off the soundtrack and forget about the rest of it.


What's the most rewarding part of film making?
Just all the work and effort you put into it. It's a very satisfying feeling to create something out of nothing. It's like going from rags to riches.

Meet Phil, a.k.a. rapper, PhillyFresco. A young film student who's heart has many loves including music, cooking, bow ties, and film, Phil lets his creativity run wild into multiple directions that could even pressure Tyler, The Creator into a stage name change. When Phil's not laying down a track in his spare time, you might find him either behind the grill as a result of his foodie upbringing, or experimenting with lighting and angles while in front of the camera. What's also clear about this artistic multitasker is that he constantly aspires to keep it fresh and creative when it comes to both his wardrobe and bow tie of choice.


Describe your style in two words.
Confused but confident. 

Favorite celebrity bow tie wearer?
Humphrey Bogart. 

 Are bow ties the centerpiece or icing to a look?
I would say that bow ties are the icing to a look like sneakers. Sneakers and bow ties both help tie a look together. No pun
intended.
 


 What would you say to people on the fence about wearing bow ties?
I would tell them to stop wearing their fat tie and put on a skinny or bow tie! Stop with their Marshall's swag and put on something fun and quirky!

Would you describe bow ties as a classic wardrobe staple, or are they now becoming more like a fashion comeback?
I would describe bow ties as part of a classic style. They'll always be classic. I think there will always be someone wearing a bow tie.


 








 

Favorite OoOTie bow tie?
I really like the flamingo bow tie and the classic paisley.

 What got you into cooking?
Being around my mom was outrageous. She was just cooking all the time and it kind of stuck.

Would you consider yourself a "foodie?"
I'm a wannabe foodie. I'm still mastering my cooking and mixology skills.

 
What would be included in your ideal "last supper?"
Definitely artichokes and mussels. 


Describe your cooking style and the food that you make. What differentiates it from others? What do you want people to say when they taste your food?
I really like cooking Mediterranean and Italian food. Just anything with strong flavors and spice. I don't necessarily want them to say anything. I just want to see smiles and make people happy with what I've made.


 









What famous chef's cooking would you love to try? Why?
I'd definitely want to try Marcus Samuelsson's food. I think his French and Swedish influences are a really unique combination and is something I'd be interested in trying. His food just seems so awesome and elegant at the same time.

What do you think of the Boston/Cambridge food scene?
I think it's pretty awesome! I like Boston food-wise because it has this edgy feel to it, but at the same time, within this urban city there's these finer restaurants. So I like how you have this play going on both within and outside of the restaurant between the classiness of the place and the edginess of the city.
